Land of the Giant Pumpkins
The Dill Farm
Home of the World’s Largest Pumpkin Variety, “Dill’s Atlantic Giant”. Developed by the late Howard Dill of Windsor, NS and former 4 time World Champion Grower.
Howard Dill was known affectionately as “The Pumpkin King”. He developed and patented his trademark variety, “Dill’s Atlantic Giant”. This variety has now produced specimens weighing over 1600 lbs.
What to See…
During the months of May, June and July, the pumpkin plants are in their growing stage. During the months of August and September, the pumpkins are starting to grow and, on average, put on approx. 10-15 lbs per day. It is during August and September that we offer free tours of our pumpkin patch.
The month of October is a visual treat. Pumpkins in all shapes and sizes adorn the family farm. Many displays are set up for unique picture taking opportunities, however, for personal use only.
We have a small gift shop that houses pumpkin memorabilia along with seeds and souvenirs. We also offer many different sizes of pumpkins, squash and gourds during the month of October.
Since 1979, The Dill Farm has welcomed visitors from all over the World. In addition to the many tourists we receive, we have also entertained many different types of media, such as television crews, newspapers, magazines, radio, etc. In the most recent years, we have hosted Martha Stewart Television, Farmer’s Almanac TV, National Geographic, The Wall Street Journal, NESN (New England Sports Network) and The Food Network, just to name a few.
Howard Dill has been recognized by many for his outstanding contribution to Giant Pumpkin Growing and Tourism. He was inducted into the Great Pumpkin Commonwealth Hall of Fame in 2005. He was also a Canadian Achiever and recognized by TIANS with the Ambassador Award. In 2005, the Windsor Business Enhancement Society had a wooden statue of Howard commissioned to honour him for all he has done to promote tourism to the Town of Windsor. Howard has won numerous awards, too many to mention at this time.
